You subscribe to a newsletter about podcasts, so you already knew that. But what does the data say? How can one quantify the podcast <> people continuum?

Per, SXM:

  • 66% of podcast listeners have a routine of listening to the same shows each week

  • 66% of podcast listeners listen to or watch multiple podcast episodes back-to-back in a single session

  • 62% never miss an episode

  • 60% say miniseries podcasts make it easier to commit to listening to an entire series

  • 50% have watched podcasts with a video component.

The US Presidential Election is less than a month away, finally. And both candidates have pulled a new trick out of their respective campaign bags: podcast guest appearances.

Is this a smart move? Can hearing a candidate converse with your favorite creator influence your vote? These are rhetorical questions because we won’t know until polls close in early November. And you can count on political pundits to Monday morning quarterback every move Harris and Trump made as their candidacies reached crescendo.

But thanks to Voxtopica, here’s what we do know: podcast listeners trust podcasts more than any other news or information source.

  • 85% of registered voters surveyed trust podcasts more than any other news and information source, including newspapers (print or digital), TV (broadcast or cable), AM/FM radio, and social media.

  • 78% of respondents agree that podcasts influence them to learn more about issues or topics in the news

  • 63% of respondents agree that podcasts change their opinions on issues or topics in the news

  • Over 50% of registered voters surveyed said they listen to podcasts to add to their knowledge of a subject, and 60% responded they strongly prefer bipartisan or nonpartisan podcast content

Anytime positive attention points to podcasts, the industry benefits. And that’s good news for podcasters of all shapes, sizes, and genres.
